What lies in the future of our youth? Essay -- Persuasive, Youth Deli
What lies in the future of our youth? Do we really know? The beliefs should be believed that we have the power to mold the minds of our children, that we have to take any steps necessary to make sure that the mold is something that we would like to see in our up and coming youth molded into, and that we cannot allow this mold to be broken. Our basic survival depends on those minds of our youth that we need to take the time to mold today. Youth delinquency is a massively growing problem in the United States today. Youth delinquency ââ¬Å"refers to abnormal social or legal behavior by children or adolescents, for dealing with juveniles, such as juvenile detention centers. There are a multitude of different theories on the causes of crime, most if not all of which can be applied to the causes of youth crimeâ⬠(Youth Delinquency, 1999 p.1). A youth (juvenile) delinquent is one who repeatedly commits crime. There are multiple reasons for the increase in criminal activity amount the nationââ¬â¢s youthful population. ââ¬Å"A substantial amount of research has been devoted to the factors that may put youth at risk for delinquency. These risk factors can be found in every life domain (individual, family, school, community, and peer group), and everyone experiences some degree of risk in his or her life. With regard to juvenile delinquency, the number, types, duration, timing and severity of risks may increase the likelihood that a youth will engage in antisocial behaviorâ⬠(Christle, Jolivette and Nelson, 2005 p. 70). Delinquent and criminal behavior among young people, as they negotiate the transition from childhood to adulthood, is an increasingly complex and confusing world. For many young people today, traditional patterns guiding the relations... ...quency. ââ¬Å"With the development of delinquency in youth being influenced by numerous factors, prevention efforts are comprehensive in scope. Prevention services include activities such as substance abuse education and treatment, family counseling, youth mentoring, parenting education, educational support, and youth shelteringâ⬠(Youth Delinquency, 1999 p.4). These protective measures should also include protective factors, such as things as strong social support systems, positive role-models and psycho-social education. Encouraging our youth to volunteer promotes civic-mindedness and gives them the opportunity to associate with other positive youths and people. When our youth are being held accountable and takes responsibility for all of their actions and behaviors, they will have a better and more balanced self-esteem and more confident when dealing with the world.

Overuse Injuries
ââ¬Å"Pain is temporary, pride is forever. â⬠This quote represents what thousands of young athletes are going through daily. Many adolescents who are working hard to become the best in their league are now falling short due to overuse injuries. With childhood obesity increasing, U. S. citizens have overlooked the overuse injuries that affect the active youth. In 2003 more than 3. 5 million children under age 15 suffered a sports injury that required medical treatment, thats about one attended injury for every 10 players, and seventy-five percent of those injuries were the result of overuse (Hyman, 2009). Overuse injuries occur over a long peroid of time and occur after repetitive micro trama to th tendons, The human body has the tremendous capability to adapt to physical stress. However if the body is put under to much stress without the proper amount of rest injury can occur. The most common injury that occurs from this is an overuse injury these include tennis elbow, runners knee, and shin splints. There are three main factors that are contributing to young athletes getting an overuse injury. The first factor is that these young athletes are being trained by parents and coaches who have no background in sports. These inexperienced coaches are providing the young athletes with improper training techniques, which can result in injury. Another factor that is leading to overuse injuries is the amount of pressure being placed on the athlete by coaches and peers. Wether it is a coach teaching their athletes to play through the pain, or parents pressuring their children so they can live vicariously through them, the well being of these young athletes is getting overlooked. The final factor stems from the previous two factors. Coaches are pressuring athletes to become specialized meaning they only participate in one sport. While this alone is not an issue, whats wrong with this is they are being improperly trained year round and rarely are given the rest needed to stay healthy. In the article Overuse Injuries in Young Athletes Doctor James H. Johnson addresses one of the issues with sport specialization ââ¬Å"Young athletes who specialize in just one sport may be denied the benefits of varied activity while facing additional physical, physiologic, and psychologic demands from intense training and competitionââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢(Johnson, 2005) The effects of the injuries are at first relatively minor. The athlete could get something like runners knee, which is inflammation of the knee joint. If allowed the proper healing time the pain will subside and the athlete can continue training. However if the athlete does not take the rest needed it could lead to getting stress fractures in the bone. These types of fractures can be extremely painful and may take months to fully heal. The effects of these injuries are serious for all athletes, but for the young growing athletes these injuries could lead to bigger problems. For example the stress fractures could effect the growth plate in some athletes. According to Overuse Injuries in Young Athletes the growth cartilage is most vulnerable to repeated micro traumas. This could lead to certain muscles developing faster than the bones they are attached to. Forcing them to attach to a different part of the bone, constricting it and not allowing it to grow properly(Johnson, 2005) Another damaging cause of overuse injuries is arthritis while overtime everyone will at one time get arthritis of some sort in the joints, for those athletes who have sustained many overuse injuries may obtain it at a much younger age. According to the article Until It Hurts many doctors find it very frustrating to see these types of injuries in athletes because with taking the proper precautions while training the risk of getting an overuse injury can be almost eliminated (Hyman, 2009). The treatment for overuse injuries depends on the specific diagnosis. For minor symptoms, reducing the intensity, duration or frequency of training brings relief. switching to a different workout schedule and cross training with other activities that allows the athlete to maintain fitness while the injured area recovers. This is very important for treating the early symptoms of overuse injuries. Working with a coach or teacher or taking lessons can assure proper training and technique. Paying particular attention to proper warm up before activity and using ice after activity may also help. Aspirin or other over the counter anti-inflammatory medications can also be taken to relieve symptoms. If symptoms persist, a sports medicine specialist will be able to create a more detailed treatment plan for the athletes specific condition. This may include a thorough review of the training program and an evaluation for any predisposing anatomic or bio-mechanical factors. Physical therapy and athletic training services may also be helpful. Overuse injuries are one hundred percent preventable, athletes need only take a few important steps to be able to train risk free. The first step is to not do to much to soon, when first starting a sport it is important to start slowly and allow the body time to adjust to that activity. It is best to start out with a warm up before the athlete starts training. starting out with stretches allows the muscles to relax more and it increases blood flow, which helps with support so not as much stress is being placed on the bones. The article Preventing Overuse Injuries, explains proper stretching technique, ââ¬Å"Do not bounce with each exercise. Stretch until you feel tension but not painâ⬠(Preventing overuse injuries, 2010) Stretching is key for a healthy work out, there are many different stretches that can be done. It is best to find stretches that are geared toward the athletes specific sport. Another key point is if any significant pain is felt during training stop. also it helps to do a cool down after training is finished followed by stretching again. If there is any soreness after training is finished the athlete should stretch that area out specifically and then ice it down and possibly take an anti-inflammatory. If athletes were taught these easy steps overuse injuries could be cut down drastically. References Hyman. (2009, april 07). Until it hurts. Diesel Campaign
In todayââ¬â¢s society there is a strong emphasis on prudent, well thought out, decision making. It is often against social norms to act on impulse. Society also affects the way one thinks, making each person self-conscious and self-aware of his surroundings. This helps him become more wary of his actions, disallowing (for the most part) uninhibited actions and reactions. However, Diesel, a clothing company, indulges the average day citizen to ââ¬Å"Be stupid. According to Dieselââ¬â¢s manifesto, which can be accessed through YouTube, this campaign suggests the stupidity of being ââ¬Å"smart,â⬠and emphasizes the need to be ââ¬Å"stupidâ⬠(ââ¬Å"The Official Be Stupid Philosophyâ⬠). Through the use of vibrant colors and fonts and the provocative and chauvinistic nature of the ad, Diesel is truly able to convey its sense of stupidity. Diesel has many advertisements that are under the ââ¬Å"Be Stupidâ⬠campaign. They all use the power of shock to capture the audienceââ¬â¢s attention. What could be bolder than encouraging stupidity? What the audience will notice first is the vibrant colors. The message is written in a neon yellow that easily captures attention. The border matches the message and it immediately grabs the audienceââ¬â¢s attention. The blanket on which the girl is lying is multicolored and eye-popping. The vibrant colors will allow the reader to stop in the middle of the magazine to look at the ad for a moment. Whatââ¬â¢s more interesting is the message that is in bold in the left hand corner. It reads, ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢ll spend more time with your boss. This is written in all bold and all capitals. The physical appearance of the message is already attention-grabbing enough, but if that wasnââ¬â¢t enough, the message itself is crazy. Itââ¬â¢s crazy in the sense that it goes against all of societyââ¬â¢s conventions. Having any type of relationship with a coworker, let alone a boss, is usually frowned up on in most offices. A ââ¬Å"wiseâ⬠thinker would know not to venture into that area, but one who goes with what he is feeling, uninhibited, would not have a problem ââ¬Å"spending more timeâ⬠with a boss.By making a controversial statement, Diesel is able to appeal to the audience, especially to the younger generation. However, this controversial statement promotes promiscuity and unintelligent responses to everyday situations. Not only is the tone of the quote provocative, but the photograph itself is also quite suggestive. It shows a topless woman lying in bed with a topless man. The woman is looking straight at the audience, with a grin shamelessly tacked onto her face. A blanket covers the manââ¬â¢s face, and it seems as if he is not even awake yet.His arm also rests on top of the womanââ¬â¢s body. It is implied that the two have slept together. It is also implied that in this case, the man is the boss, while the woman is the one who is ââ¬Å"[being] stupid. à ¢â¬ In the photograph, it seems as if the woman is in control of the situation, since she is awake with the smile on her face, looking directly at the camera. In fact, she is portrayed as the one taking advantage of the male, when it is usually the opposite in society. Though this may seem empowering, it holds women in a negative light. Not only is the female not the boss, she is the one using the male in order to ââ¬Å"be stupid. â⬠This is degrading to women, even though it may not initially seem like it. The advertisement seems to be saying that girls should ââ¬Å"be stupid,â⬠and that intelligence is unimportant. It promotes girls acting foolishly and doing irrational things like sleeping with a boss. Is this what Diesel wants the future of the younger female population to be? If so, it is quite chauvinistic and deprecating to the many advancements females have made throughout history. This picture juxtaposed with the slogan encourages women to be licentious and to disregard ethics. The ââ¬Å"Be Stupidâ⬠campaign has much potential in carrying a positive meaning. It encourages people to occasionally step out of their realms of comfort, and to be a little bit bold and daring every now and then. This can be a positive message because without taking risks, people will not be able to succeed. It is not always good to be uninhibited, however; there are certain limitations as to how impulsive one can be.The issue is that Dieselââ¬â¢s campaign puts no boundaries as to how ââ¬Å"stupidâ⬠one can and should be and just suggests people to act as savages. ââ¬Å"Be Stupidâ⬠also suffers due to the poor word choice, along with the risque advertisements; it only appeals to the immature and undeveloped, and manipulates their malleable minds into believing that ââ¬Å"spending more time with your bossâ⬠and being ââ¬Å"stupidâ⬠is acceptable. Diesel should stop being ââ¬Å"stupidâ⬠and be more conscious of the message the y send.
HRD Needs Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
HRD Needs Analysis - Essay Example It further identifies the gaps that persist between the employees and the skills that are required in order to adequately perform the current responsibilities (Rouda & Kusy, 1995). Need analysis also attempts at describing the gaps between the existing and needed skills of the concerned employees so that they can complete the assigned tasks comprehensively. It can be stated that the needs can prevail in any of the three levels such as organization, the job/ tasks and the individual. For the purpose of ensuring effectual HRD efforts, it is important to measure the needs at each level (Slideshare, 2012). The organizations are required to assess three types of needs such as organizational analysis, task analysis and person analysis. Strategic analysis recommends the need for training and the circumstances under which it is likely to take place. Task analysis demonstrates what needs to be done in order to perform a specific task and person analysis reveals who is required to be trained a nd what sort of training is needed (Werner & DeSimone, 2012). Diagnosis of Issue It has been noted that RACQââ¬â¢s reported surplus was majorly affected by factors that were not forecasted to take place in the coming years, specifically the release of preceding yearsââ¬â¢ Compulsory Third Party (CTP) related exceptional claim provisions along with mutual aids to communities which was influenced by natural disasters in late 2010 as well as early 2011. It was because of the natural disasters that the organization confronted major rise in the operational costs of road services along with its call centers. Reasons for Issue Operating costs rose in the organization after the disaster because of the disruption caused by the devastation of physical infrastructure. Operating costs are the routine costs required to run a business or service provider. Disaster leads to disruption because of the temporary interruptions in water and sanitation, transport services and electricity as well i n the organization. Hence, the company had to invest significantly in order to repair the damages that took place and increase the effectiveness. Along with it, the disruptions in the personal lives as well as businesses had a major influence upon the revenues in areas such as travel as well as driver training during and after the natural disasters. Rise in operational costs because of the natural disaster had adversely affected the profits of the organization and hence hampered its successful operations. It can be mentioned that the issues that has been raised here calls for needs analysis at all the three levels namely strategic analysis, person analysis and task analysis. These issues can be linked with the organizational analysis of need assessment. It is considered to be vital for the organization to focus upon the aspect of contingency planning by reserving sufficient funds so that it can be most effectively utilized when such mishaps takes place. There is also a need of train ing that shall focus upon the effective management of the unforeseen events in the organization (Blackman, 2012). Diagnosis of Issue The other challenge that the organization encounters have been related to the relationship management pertaining to the new members which offers the staffs as well

Group project analysis Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Group project analysis - Assignment Example In this case, a group is treated as a single student regardless of the gender, age of ethnicity of the members forming it. This reflection paper explores the latest group assignment we deed establishing the dynamic involved with group as well as key issues. The group I belonged was made up of five members including myself working toward a common goal of completing the class assignment on time and at the highest quality level possible. Because the mark scored by the group was to appear on the result slip of the respective members of the group, it was expected that the contribution of members would equal to each other. Second, there was expected to be effective mutual communication between the members to enable them integrate the individual work into group work before submission to the lecture for marking as the lecturer had specified beforehand that piecemeal work was completely unacceptable. Third, there was expected for members not only to complete the assignment but also to learn new ideas from their interaction in the group to enable them grow their knowledge base as well as their skills in team/group work. Although the ultimate goal of submitting the assignment on time was achieved, the final score deviated from the expected score (95% instead of 100%) because of several challenges faced. Contrary to the prior expectation of equal contribution from members involved, only three members significantly contributed to the final document of the assignment. This does not mean that the two members did not contribute, they contributed but at a smaller percentage compared to the three most active members. This reminded me of the influence of personal factors such as behavior and attitudes on contribution in group or team work (Ramayah et al, 2003) considering other factors constant; same lessons timetable and same goal of excelling in our

Climate change drivers Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Climate change drivers - Term Paper Example Climate change effects have severely affected numerous activities and patterns. First, temperature has not been able to retain its conventional pattern almost in every part of the world. Abrupt changes have not allowed weather and temperature to experience a steady change and natural cycle transformation throughout the world. For example, higher temperatures have numerous ramifications for California water systems as they put effect on Sierra snowpack accumulation and snowmelt along with other hydrologic factors (Kiparsky and Gleick 5). Based on this description, it can be easily deduced that the rise in the temperature does not affect in a single manner. For example, in the mentioned quotation, it is evidently clear that Sierra snowpack accumulation and snowmelt are being affected by the change in the weather patterns and climatic change as well. PrecipitationCaliforniaââ¬â¢s unique and different landscape affects precipitation patterns in the state (Carle 4).à The climate cha nge studies have been carried out for last many decades in California and other parts of world in which the environmental scientists have been conducting various environmental tests through observations and experiments. However, till this point of time, the scientists have not been able to accurately provide the impact of climate change on the precipitation. However, it has been highlighted that California receives around 200 million acre-feet of precipitation (Carle 8). Water vapor, water temperature, are those factors that affect the water quality.
